Signs of Fibromyalgia

You might often find a woman complaining of continuous pain in the neck, shoulder and back due to which she is not able to lead a normal life. This pain is felt in the joints and most of the time confused with arthritis. Most of the sufferers complain of a pain in the body which seems similar like the pain which is felt in the body when we suffer from flu but if you touch the body the temperature of the body will be normal or below normal.

At that time we ignore the matter and feel that it is just normal pain due to over exertion, bad posture during sleeping or some other cause. But the pain should not be taken lightly if it persists for a long period that is more than three months as it may be fibromyalgia. It is a syndrome which should be treated immediately though it may not cause any type of physical damage it hampers normal life.

What are the Signs of Fibromyalgia?

It is true that the pain in the body mimics the pain felt in many other diseases but in other diseases there are symptoms which helps the doctor to diagnose the exact disease. In the same way there are signs in fibromyalgia which points towards the fact that the person is suffering from this syndrome.

The main problem is the body ache which is followed by fatigue, weakness, lethargy, sleeplessness due to the pain in the tender areas of the body. The patient may also show other signs like bowel problem, loss of appetite, pain in the stomach, constipation, frequent diarrhea and dryness in the mouth and eyes and even ear pain.

The pain also causes stress, lack of concentration, memory loss where the person tends to forget things easily. These leads to other problems like moodiness, anxiety, irritation, depression and other psychological problems.

The person becomes very sensitive and the pain may start at any minor stimulation like change in the weather condition, by a slight touch or by the effect of sound or light. It is considered to be psychological but the pain is genuine and should not be ignored. This affects the normal physical and mental functioning of the patient.

It is said that fibromyalgia mostly affects middle aged women but studies has shown that it also affects men and children. It has been observed that people who develop fibromyalgia have suffered from some kind of trauma like accident, surgery or attack of bad flu in their life.
