Diagnosing Fibromyalgia
What did you say? You are not feeling well. Why what has happened? Are you down with fever? No, then what is the matter? You are suffering from body pain. From when are you suffering from body pain? Do you have any other symptoms? Yes, you are suffering from body pain for the last three months.
Along with that you are feeling lethargic, pain in the joints and ligaments, sleep disorder, and tiredness isn't it? Then it is better that you immediately consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain. According to your description it seems to be fibromyalgia.
It is a syndrome which mostly affects middle aged women but it has been found that men and children also suffer from this disease. What is the cause of fibromyalgia? Till date the exact cause of this disease has not been found. Many believe it is a neurological problem, some say it is caused due to some trauma or shock which one experiences at some stage of life and some believe it is a viral attack.
Whatever may be the cause it is true that you are not able to lead the normal life like before as the pain is hampering your ability to do the daily work. But there is nothing to worry, go to the doctor as soon as possible.
Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia
What have you heard, that diagnosis of fibromyalgia is not possible? Yes it is true that it is very difficult to diagnose fibromyalgia. Do you know why? Because fibromyalgia is a syndrome which mimics the symptoms of many diseases so just hearing about the problems the doctor will not be able to decide what the actual ailment is.
So when the doctor will start diagnosing he will look for all the other factors so that the possibility of having any other disease can be eliminated and a final decision can be taken. When you visit the doctor do not forget to tell him all the problems you are facing. It is better to note down in a safe place as you might have observed that some times you tend to forget things.
Many research and studies is going on about this disease and the American College of Rheumatology has prepared some guidelines to help the Physicians to diagnose the disease. According to them there are eighteen tender points in the body out of which the patient should feel pain in at least eleven points when pressure is applied to those places. The pain in the body should persist for three months. But all the doctors do not follow it strictly.
